Solved Monetizing Cover songs?

Hi!

I've searched all over and can't find an answer to this. I've seen loads of cover song videos with ads playing on them, so what's the deal? can you monetize covers then? Or is it a sure way to get copyright strikes?

It depends on various factors. The only way to really verify whether you may make a cover of a song would be to look at YouTube's audio Library or to direct the artist or Label directly. In the audio library it shows here:

Please note that covers may also be monetised by a Record Label (Content ID claims) and therefor have ads running on them that the creator doesn't profit from.
