I'm going to sort through these posts and say which of the already mentioned ones I believe you should watch! Mirai Nikki is a must!

School Days, Angel Beats, Dangan Ronpa, Anohana, Another, Aku No Hana, Hell Girl, Deadman Wonderland, Paranoia Agent, and Corpse Party ;v;

School Days is really messed up but subliminally is really good. Angel Beats and Anohana made me cry and are in my top 10 anime of all time. Danganronpa is really good if you want a "whodunit?" type of anime. Corpse Party and Deadman Wonderland are really gory if you're into that.

I never actually finished it, myself. I am not all that into the drama / depressing sort of anime. Though it is a pretty good watch for those who do.

ShinChan (looks like a children show and some translations are like that. However, the show has often an extreme kind of humour which is probable nothing for children - well, it was intended for parents/adults)
Gon (It made for children but it is hilarious)
Hellsing (the original show) and if you don`t mind weaker visuals Hellsing Ultimate
Excel Saga (if you have a really black sense for humour)
Slayers (all series)
Record of Loddoss War (high fantasy)
Attack on Titan (I`m not such a big fan but everybody seems to love it)
Gintama
Lupin III

My wife is loving all shows of Saint Seiya.

However, full feature film
everything from Studio Gibli, Otomo...

If you like life action based on manga:
Thermae Romae 2.... it has so many visuals that you understand the movie even without language and it`s awesome. (The first part is also good but not that much as the second part)
Tokyo Tribes was also a great movie if you like rap music.

GATE its a great anime but i recommend steins gate and blood lad. also noragami... its one of my top 5 animes
