YouTube verified with only 1,000 subs

So I've been seeing a lot of YouTubers who are verified and only have a small amount of subs (seen someone with about 700 before)

Why is there suddenly an influx in small channels being verified? I'm not against smaller channels being verified (or anyone for that matter) it just seems to not make sense as you're supposed to be a brand so to speak and with such a small following it's seems sort of opposite of what it supposed to be for.

Probably because they know someone in their network or used to be a network staff.

I think the network is able to leverage the process.
I was wondering if they'd be able to get custom links rolling too.

Well now you can request on freedom to verify your youtube channel and if you satisfy conditions they can verify your channel you just need to have google+. But that is not that much important to me so I didn't make a request so far.

Yeah at this point getting verified is pretty easy if you know someone who has power in a network!
