You are right, it is important to not focus on the success you want to achieve, it is important to have fun doing it and to keep going even when you think it's useless, you won't get anywhere if you quit. I always give 110% even if it is only for 3 people who enjoy my content. Through the likes or dislikes, subscribes or unsubscribes, positive comments or negative ones, it's important to know that if you keep going and give it your all, you will be successful for sure whether its sooner or later, it will happen.
That's why it's important to set quality goals and stay determined trying to reach it. The first thing my fiance told me before starting a video is how are you going to be different from every other youtube personality. I thought she was trying to shoot the idea down at first them just realized she wants to make sure I'm committed to stand
How do you define successful though? - for me it's if you enjoy creating the content then boom! that should be enough, it is for me anyways, i get the odd negitive and positive comment here and there but as Gamenugz says if you 3 people who enjoy it, i think that makes it worthwhile - just keep up the efforts guys :)
Exactly! As long as you enjoy doing what you're doing, that's successful enough in itself! If you're enjoying yourself, chances are others will enjoy watching.

I've seen many posts about disheartened Youtube personalities lately. It's sad to see many of our talented to go unnoticed, yes, but it's even more upsetting to see everyone getting so bent out of shape about a number. When we place expectations on things, it leads to disappointment as these expectations don't come through for us. Set goals, yes, but don't let broken expectations keep you from reaching your goals. Stay POSITIVE, and tell yourself, no matter how long it takes it how hard it is, I CAN reach my goal. As for myself, I want to spread positivity and make people smile and just feel good. I want to have fun. Sure, I'd like to spread influence over many people across the world. As long as I can make a difference for one person, I'm happy. That's what matters. Don't worry about the numbers. Stop trying to set success at a value. Value those who you influence, and be a success to them. Life is too short to worry about the little things. Let's try to make an impact.

Thank you! People often take for granted the little things, so sometimes it's nice to step back and see the big picture.

Hello brother!

I am in complete agreement with you, that number doesn't mean a thing. Its good to establish a goal, but at the end of the day as long as the YTber is happy it shouldn't matter how many subs they have. I am happy and hope you are too!

To sound all cheesy and cliche, what you've said I can really relate to... :)
I started putting vids up years ago, but became so obsessed with Audience Retention figures and such, that I got into my own head a little and stopped doing it, thinking it wasn't worth it or I wasn't good enough.

It's only until the last 3 years that managed to get the motivation to create back and start uploading again.

Now I have been trying to make a real go of it and try not to let numbers get to me, and just have FUN!

I think sometimes people DO get too fixated on how many Subs they have or Views etc... but I can attest to staying positive being really important and helpful :p

We all have our low times.... just gotta power on through it!

...Ok cheesy speech over
Good speech and awesome mindset when it comes to your gaming experience on YT

Thanks dude!
It's a battle that most if not all small channels face, so I though it appropriate :)
I feel like as long as I am enjoying myself on YT everything else is secondary. I see a lot of people going crazy over views or how many subs when at the end of the day I'm having fun and this is my experience. If more people had that mindset I think YT would be a better place!

Agreed, and then we wouldn't get all this Sub4Sub fake likes and paid views nonsense.

It's almost like YouTube sometimes runs on numbers alone, which is a shame :(

No true passion behind it unless you've got the money....

Nice thread. My personal belief is that if you are dedicated and passionate about what your doing, on both YouTube and in life in general, then you will eventually reap the rewards.

What I struggle with on Youtube is this: I'm a realtively new Youtube channel (2 months). Those who have checked out my content have left me great comments and it keeps me motivated to produce more quality content. The struggle comes in the fact that sometimes I feel a little guilty, because as much as I'd like to return the favor, I don't necessarily like my fans' content, and I only subscribe to channels that I find to be entertaining and enjoyable. In a way I feel like I owe my fans something, but I will not subscribe just because they subscribed to my channel. I don't do sub4sub....anyone else seem to experience anything similar?

Yeah, and it's especially hard to promote yourself as a small channel without doing sub 4 sub. I'd love for my channel to grow naturally, and i believe it will with time, but so far it seems like most of the smaller community is only interested if you do something for them in return

This is very similar to what I've experienced. But I seem to have garnered a few fans who seem to generally enjoy the content I produce without me subbing back to them. These are the type of fans that I want-- they are the ones who will most likely view your content and continue to do so because the actually enjoy what they see.
